A Christian View of Learning

Man is not just a biological being who has the mechanism to make mental and physical adjustments in relation to his environment. The Scripture gives clarity in Gen. 1:27, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him…” In chapter 2:7, “Then the Lord God formed man of the dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostril’s the breath of life; and man became a living being.” (RSV)
According to scripture, the pride and glory of man is not his amazing creative ingenuity, but the fear of God or the wisdom that is the very embodiment or personalizing of the true, the good, and the beautiful. Learning is not to be viewed as a passive process of filling a container - the mind, or as a process of setting a dynamo in action to produce a flower. Learning is a phase of human development. It is that phase of human development which points to achievements made by the person in the forming of his personality.
